Back in 2012, DC Comics resurrected their National Comics imprint, and so what better way to give it life than via the supernatural character Madame Xanadu?
I’ve got a lot of first and final pages in my collection, and I’m a fan of the process that goes into publishing comics. Trevor Hairsine is primarily a digital illustrator, so his first pass is in digital blueline, but then he prints and hand-inks his pages which produces a beautiful and unique analog totem.
Growing-up in and around Salem, MA, I cut my teeth and Tarot Cards and the occult, so this gorgeous title splash is practically custom made for me. In Rob Williams’ script, the once-famous tarot card reader Madame X now works at a New Orleans law firm as the resident ‘psychic,’ where her powers help to solve a complicated new case. It’s part Hellblazer and part Jessica Jones, and would’ve been a Vertigo book if it had been published a decade sooner. It’s a great read, and this is a beautiful page.
