Maria Laura Sanapo was born in Italy and has been drawing superheroes since before she learned how to read and write. She speaks English, German and Spanish and holds a degree in languages from the University of Siena followed by two years at the International School of Comics in Florence (where she is now an instructor) and then, taking lessons from her mentor and husband Marco Santucci. She also teaches illustration at the world famous Kubert School
She’s worked for Dynamite and DC Comics, illustrating titles including DC Bombshells, Wonder-Woman, Batwoman, Vampirella, Red Sonja and also worked for Archie Comics , Titan Comics, Valiant and Zenescope.
This cover-quality Batgirl commission is a tribute to Arthur Adams’ iconic Longshot #3 cover, with Barbara Gordon as Batgirl in place of Longshot. The weaponry is specific to Batgirl’s rogues gallery, with some of Ventriloquist‘s dummies, Joker‘s pinstriped sleeve and gloved hand holding his “Bang” joke pistol, Penguin‘s weaponized umbrella, Grotesque‘s electric mace, Velvet Tiger‘s striped, clawed hand holding a meat cleaver, Killer Moth‘s cocoon gun, Talon‘s chained cuffs, Lady Shiva‘s kusarigama —and a slew of bullet holes behind our heroine.
