VIRGIL FINLAY: PANIC DANCE (1964)

Virgil Finlay (1914-1971) was an American illustrator celebrated for his intricate fantasy, science fiction, and horror artwork in the pulp magazine era. Renowned for his stippling, cross-hatching, and scratchboard techniques, he produced over 2,600 pieces across a 35-year career for publications like Weird Tales, Astounding Stories, and Amazing Stories. A 1953 Hugo Award winner and 2012 Science Fiction Hall of Fame inductee, his detailed black-and-white illustrations influenced generations of speculative fiction artists.

This is an exceptionally rare, fine art, abstract illustration in the style of Cy Twombly. It is titled “Panic Dance” and signed and dated 1-21-64. This is a true museum piece.
