SAILOR MOON: Genga Production Drawing Set by Ikuko Itoh

Sailor Moon is the fountainhead that established the western accpetance and fascination with Anime.  The Japanese animated television series produced by Toei Animation adapting the Magical Girl manga by Naolo Takeuchi became a global sensation and a merchandising juggernaut valued at over $1.5 Billion in just the first three years. Nothing short of revolutionary for it’s heroic potrayal and empowerment of female characters, it is one of the most influential media products of all time. Stunning when one considers that the original series ran for just five years, making cels and otherpieces of production art scarce and highly sought.

“Flames of Passion: Mars’s Raging Super Attack” is the 25th episode of the 4th season of the Sailor Moon anime and the 152nd episode overall. This was the first episode to feature Sailor Mars’ transformation, Mars Crystal Power, Make Up, and her new attack, Mars Flame Sniper, and it also included the last uses of Burning Mandala and Sparkling Wide Pressure.

This set of genga (production drawings used as masters for each sequence) includes not just a production genga hand drawn by a lead animator but also a correction genga hand-drawn by the Animation Director, who happens to be legendary animator Ikuko Itoh. The corrections are drawn on color-toned paper of the exact same size and variety as the standard white production paper. Frequently, animation dealers will separate these for individual sale, so getting a matched pair is extraordinary.
