The protagonist of Slayers is Lina Inverse, a teenage genius & sorceress with many nicknames and much infamy attached to her that she refuses to acknowledge. Lina narrates the history of her various adventures, ranging from whimsical and silly to dramatic to even outright world-threatening crises, in which she becomes involved along with her traveling companions everywhere she goes. Zelgadiss and Amelia started off as rivals but came to work together often in battle, often casting the same spell at the same time for a double effect. Many fans have seen evidence that Zelgadiss has romantic feelings for Amelia, and it is seemingly confirmed here, making this a key genga for a true fan.

Including the spin-off series, the Slayers novels had 20 million copies in print as of 2018.
