In the year 2199, the space battleship Yamato embarks on a voyage to the planet Iscandar, to retrieve a device that will rejuvenate a war-ravaged Earth…
So begins the two year epic of Uchû Senkan Yamato, a groundbreaking anime that ran on Japanese television in 1974 & 1975 which became the first sci-fi anime to reach US shores after the release of Star Wars in 1977 (under the title Starblazers). This American interest in the series lead to a repackaging in Japan, and producers condensed the two-year series into a 135 minute feature film, titled Space Battleship Yamato. This toy was produced as a tie-in to the feature film, and helped to kick-off an ongoing series of sequels that included two more television series, four more feature films, and an OVA mini-series as well as live action adaptations.
This 1/1300 scale toy was supervised by series creator Leiji Matsumoto. This is an original bandai die-cast toy, not a reproduction.
