The Lovely Gals doll line by Bandai was originally planned as “Pretty Figure Series” with a broad scope of anime characters to cover. However, the line was renamed and reduced to five figures: Kei and Yuri (of Dirty Pair), Creamy Mami and Morisawa Yuu (of Creamy Mami) and one Sukeban Deka doll, released in 1985 and 1986.
The line is somewhere in between dolls and scaled figures, as they all have display stands, limited articulation and molded hair. They wear “real” clothes of vinyl and cloth and each has accessories. The box design was quite stylish and each figure in the collection was numbered sequentially.
Each doll had an initial SRP of ¥ 8,000. All were 1/6 scale. Each measures 345mm x 135mm x 75mm / 292g in package. This is a very rare complete set of 5 dolls in original packaging.
Lovely Gals Collection 1. Kei (from animation film Dirty Pair): Hair is molded, legs do not move. Clothes are vinyl. There is a self-description on the box, translated into English from the first light novel about Dirty Pair:
“My name is Kei, nineteen years old. I’m 171 centimeter tall and weigh 54 kilogram. My vital statistics are 91-55-91 centimeter. I think it’s ideal proportion. My hair is red and slightly frizzled, and I’ve got it set in short wolf cut. I think this cut fits me. My eyes are brown and so is my skin, yes, corn-colored. I dare say, I’m a cute and just a little mannish beauty”.
Lovely Gals Collection 2. Yuri (from animation film Dirty Pair): Hair is molded, legs do not move. Clothes are vinyl. There is a self-description on the box, translated into English from the first light novel about Dirty Pair:
“My name is Yuri. I’m still nineteen yers old, 168 centimeter tall and weigh 51 kilogram. My vital statistics are 88-54-90 centimeter. I’m just a little smaller than Kei, but I have beautiful blue-black hair, straight on my shoulder. And in contrast, I have snow-white skin, so I look like a doll. Is it strange to say so by myself? Yes, of course I know I’m just a little sarcastic, but I believe you never mind”.
The doll is, indeed, a little shorter than Kei, even if it seems they are based on the same body.
Lovely Gals Colllection 3. Creamy Mami (from original video animation film Creamy Mami: Long Goodbye) Hair is molded, legs do not move. Creamy Mami is wearing the battle outfit seen in 1985 OVA Long Goodbye.
Lovely Gals Collection 4. Morisawa You (from original video animation film Creamy Mami: Long Goodbye) Hair is molded, legs do not move. Clothing is polyester and accessories are vinyl.
Lovely Gals Collection 5. Asamiya Sakai II / Godo Yokai (from Sukeban Deka II): Other Sukeban Deka dolls were designed to match her, though not released as part of the same Bandai toy line.
Sukeban Deka is a detective manga about a delinquent schoolgirl who is forced to become a police agent at Takanoah High School. (Sukeban means a leader of a girl gang). Sukeban Deka dolls embody the characters of live action TV series. In the first instalment, the protagonist is Asamiya Saki, whose weapon is a metal yo-yo. Another girl named Godai Yoko, the girl in the iron mask, adopts the identity of Asamiya Saki in the second series.
It is extremely rare to find a complete set. These are pretty clean and complete.
