Description

Miran Kim grew up in New York. She earned her BFA from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco in illustration. She did graduate study at New York City’s School of Visual Arts. She currently works as a freelance comic book illustrator / painter and lives in Northern France.

Miran’s numerous publishing clients include Marvel Comics, Absolut Vodka, Topps, Papercutz, IDW, Éditions Glénat, Insight Editions and Métal Hurlant. In addition to commercial artwork, Miran’s personal paintings have been featured in group shows at the New Museum of Contemporary Art (NYC), the Museum of Cartoonist and Comic Book Art (NYC), Galerie Huberty Breyne (Paris) and more.

She is perhaps best known among comic fans for her photorealistic painted covers to the very first X-Files comics.

This painting was intended as a wraparound cover to a planned Marvel Comics adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, IT in 2010. Pennywise can be seen prominently, holding a red balloon. Kim later repurposed and retitled the piece, Uncomplicated Treats (Night) for a feature exhibition at Los Angeles’ La Luz de Jesus gallery in 2011.
